What is RSS?

What is RSS?RSS is an acronym for “Really Simple Syndication”, and is a standard for publishing regular updates to web-based content. Using RSS, web sites provide updates (called “feeds”) that make it easy to monitor a web site.

Rather than laborously visiting each site you’re interested in, and manually checking to see if it’s been updated, you let your RSS reader do the drudge work. It will periodically get the latest RSS feed from each site, and show you only the newest information.

You can read RSS feeds using the reader built into most web browsers, or by using online RSS readers such as Google Reader and NetVibes. RSS feeds can also be ready by many mobile phones, such as the BlackBerry and the iPhone.
