Canasta is a game that originated in Uraguay and Argentina; "canasta" is a Spanish word meaning "basket",
which provides a hint as to the object of the game -- to make "melds", which are combinations of
three or more cards of the same rank.
As such, the game shares many elements with Rummy, but the game also provides for plenty of opportunity
for skillful play, rivaling even Bridge in terms of both skill and popularity.
The game uses 108 cards -- two 52-card decks plus four jokers. The jokers are wild. Four players
form two partnerships, and each player is dealt eleven cards.
Online Canasta tournaments allow you to demonstrate your skills against other Canasta players
from around the world in online Canasta tournaments.
